Scotland could see one million micro-renewable installations by 2020

A new report for DBERR by Element Energy suggests that - with new policies - up to nine million homes could be equipped with micro-renewables in 12 years, generating as much energy as five massive nuclear power stations.

Friends of the Earth Scotland Chief Executive Duncan McLaren said:

"Friends of the Earth Scotland welcomes this report. We have long pushed for an enhanced role for household and community renewable power - not just to cut emissions, but to protect householders from rising energy bills. The UK Government should urgently amend the Energy Bill to provide incentives to allow those installing household renewables to sell energy to the grid for a fair price."

"The Scottish Government has increased capital funding for such technologies, introduced planning rules to require their use on most new homes, and are proposing to cut some of the planning red tape householders face. If they provide better incentives such as local tax rebates and remove the remaining obstacles as part of a strategic approach, Scotland alone could see close to a million installations by 2020."
