Scottish Parliament vote on energy - Friends of the Earth Scotland
17 January 2008
Topics: Nuclear
Commenting on the Scottish Parliament vote to reject nuclear power in
Scotland [1], Duncan McLaren, Chief Executive of Friends of the Earth
Scotland, said:
"We warmly welcome the Scottish Parliament's rejection of the expensive
white elephant of nuclear power, and their recognition that new nuclear
power stations would be practically useless in the fight against climate
change."
"We hope to continue working constructively with the Scottish Government to
help deliver the measures which will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions
from the Scottish energy sector: serious energy conservation, ambitious
renewable energy targets and support for micropower and decentralised
energy."
"This vote confirms Friends of the Earth Scotland's earlier research, which
found that a majority of Scotland's MSPs are opposed to new nuclear power
stations in Scotland." [2]
