At the UN climate summit in Lima, we are working with colleagues from Friends of the Earth organisations and climate justice allies around the world to bring a strong civil society voice to the negotiations. We’ll be united in highlighting the impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities and calling for fair global emissions targets. Will you help us push for global action on climate?
With your support, we can put pressure on world leaders to make the right choices and set us on a pathway that reduces emissions in a fair way and avoids catastrophic climate change. The world needs a deal that reflects science and justice. At this crucial moment, please give what you can to help our campaign.
Optimists are hoping that the talks in Lima might produce the first draft of a global deal on climate to be agreed in Paris in a years’ time. The truth is that despite overwhelming evidence of both the serious risks and what we need to do to avoid them, a deal is far from certain. We don’t expect one set of talks in Lima to solve everything. But I know that we need to keep the pressure on to ensure governments choose the right path before it’s too late.
My colleague Dipti at FoE Mozambique wrote to us recently to highlight the urgent need for decisive action on climate change:
“We are facing a planetary emergency: floods, storms, droughts and rising seas are already causing devastation. The risk of runaway climate breakdown draws ever closer. Around the world people and communities are paying the cost of our governments’ continued inaction with their livelihoods and lives.”
Flawed it may be, but the UN climate talks process is the best, most democratic place to decide on a course of action to tackle the most serious threat faced by humanity. And the stakes are terribly high. We can’t afford to keep quiet. If the political will is there, our governments can take the right actions in time to prevent devastating climate change. And your support is a vital part of creating the political will that we need. A donation of any size will make a real difference. Many thanks for your support.
