Volunteer box collector
Position: Volunteer – Charity Box Collector
Hours: 2 days per week
Duration: 2 months minimum

Friends of the Earth Scotland is an independent registered charity, working for environmental justice in Scotland. For over 30 years we have campaigned for a decent environment for all, supporting disadvantaged communities suffering from environmental injustices such as pollution, or the adverse effects of poor developments such as road expansions or open cast mining.
Currently, FoE Scotland has approximately 5,000 members who support our campaigning activities as well as providing over 40% of our annual income.
We are looking for a volunteer to assist the Membership and Events Fundraising Manager to place our collecting boxes into the community to advertise who we are and collect up loose change.
The job
- Making contact with local retailers to place our collecting box in their premises
- On a regular basis collect, accurately record and bank these donations
- Investigate new places for collection boxes to be situated

- Ability to use initiative and happy to work alone whilst knowing you are part of a team

Communications Volunteer
Position: Volunteer – Communications
Hours: 1 days per week
Duration: 3 months minimum preferred

The job
You will assist with our media work by logging online and print media coverage. You will also help us keeping our website up to date and upload images to our Flickr archive.
Person Specification
Essential Skills:
- Excellent written communication skills
- Flexible and enthusiastic approach
- Excellent IT skills
- Experience of website development, or ability to learn quickly
- Knowledge and experience of social networking
- Methodical and well organised, with good attention to detail
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable Skills:
- Reasonable knowledge of and interest in the issue of climate change
- Experience using Apple Macs would be beneficial
Duties:
- Monitoring our media mentions
- Assist with updating website and creating content
- Help develop communications resources and materials
- Any other tasks which affect the smooth running of the department, with the agreement of the volunteer
You will report to the Communications Officer, who is based in the Edinburgh office.

We have a network of voluntary local groups throughout Scotland. As a member of a local campaigning group there are opportunities to get involved in a range of activities including:
- Planning and organising local campaigns
- Participating in days of action
- Organising fundraising events
- Helping to distribute information.
