Un-Happy Fossil Free Anniversary Party

Accessibility Info
The event will held outdoors adjacent to High Street with no steps or physical impediments.

If you’re in Edinburgh on Friday 24th November at 1pm, please join Divest Lothian and Global Justice Now Scotland outside Edinburgh City Chambers for a climate demonstration to mark one year since City of Edinburgh Council passed a motion calling on the Lothian Pension Fund (LPF) to end its investments in fossil fuel companies that are driving the climate crisis and the Un-Happy Fossil Free Anniversary of the Lothian Pension Fund's failure to do this.

We’ll be joined by Jane Lewis from Protest in Harmony who will teach some great climate songs and we’ll have a special anniversary card to send to councillors.

On 24th November 2022, the City of Edinburgh Council passed a motion calling on the LPF to protect the longer-term interests of its members by removing its investments from fossil fuel companies that are not shifting their business toward renewable energy.

Despite this, a year later the LPF has failed to act on this call. It continues to hold significant investments in fossil fuel companies that are driving the climate crisis. Latest figures available show these investments include ExxonMobil (£37m), Equinor (£23m), BP (£18m), Shell (£17m) and TotalEnergies (£25m).

Please join us to tell the Lothian Pension Fund to listen to councillors and concerned citizens from Edinburgh and around the world who are calling on LPF to stop funding fossil fuels and instead to invest for our future. Everyone is welcome!
