If we want a healthy, safe climate we need to leave remaining fossil fuels in the ground.
We are challenging Scottish councils, institutions, and investors to break financial ties with dirty energy as part of our campaign for Scotland go fossil free.
Fossil fuels - coal, oil and gas - are the main driver of climate change. If we want a healthy, safe climate we need to leave remaining fossil fuels in the ground.
Unaccountable fossil fuel companies like BHP Billiton and BP are doing the opposite. Mining and exploration is unlocking more carbon from the earth, polluting sensitive environments like the Arctic and the Borneo rainforest, and destroying the livelihoods of local people.
Scottish money is deeply connected to this devastation with £1.7 billion of our council pensions invested in fossil fuels.
It's for Scotland to stop gambling on fossil fuels and invest sustainably.
Worldwide it is estimated that funds totalling $3.4 trillion have gone fossil free and Scotland has made a great start, with universities and churches taking action and some cultural institutions ending fossil fuel sponsorship.
Divesting challenges the legitimacy of climate polluting companies and unlocks money that can be then be invested in climate solutions.
Join our councils campaign and sign our public petition and help us build a network of people supporting sustainable investment.

Friends of the Earth Scotland has been campaigning on finance and banking reform since 2007 with successes including RBS' 2013 decision to pull out of mountain-top removal. In early 2016 we published proposals to move away from unsustainable banking giants and towards Scottish finance that is embedded in communities, accountable, and environmentally sound.
