42% better...

Our Big Ask Scotland campaign called for, and won, a strong Scottish Climate Change Bill. Scotland now has the strongest climate change legislation in the world. 

However, the battle doesn't end there. We need to continue campaigning to ensure that the Scottish Government sticks to its targets of reducing emissions by 42% by 2020. photo: Maverick Photo Agency

To show them that it can be done, and that if we do tackle our unsustainable habits we will also have improved lifestyles, we prepared the report '42% Better'. 

We are also working with the Friends of the Earth Europe network and Stop Climate Chaos Scotland to encourage other European countries to follow Scotland's example and to lobby the European Union for ambitious EU-wide targets.

Stop Climate Chaos Scotland

We are a founding member of Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, the largest coalition of diverse groups campaigning on climate change in Scotland. The coalition represents over 2 million people in Scotland, that’s 40% of the population!

The coalition organised the biggest ever Mass Lobby of the Scottish Parliament on the day that MSPs were voting on the Scottish Climate Change Bill. Over 100 people came to the Scottish Parliament to ask their MSP to vote on crucial amendments to strengthen the legislation. View pictures of the Mass Lobby.

As part of the Stop Climate Chaos Scotland coalition, we helped to organise and publicise the Wave, Scotland's largest ever climate change demonstration in Glasgow. 8,000 people attended to voice their concerns and call for climate justice. View the photos on Flickr.
