Nuclear power is an expensive, ineffective and a risky way to address climate change. Nuclear power also leaves future generations a legacy of deadly radioactive waste to deal with. Investment in energy conservation and renewables is cheaper, safer and quicker than nuclear. As a means of solving climate change and improving energy security nuclear power is a 'white elephant'.Our energy needs could be met with safe and efficient renewable energy technologies and serious investment in energy efficiency. Investment in these sensible alternatives would be undermined if UK ministers are allowed to foist a new nuclear power programme on Scotland. Friends of the Earth Scotland is campaigning to stop nuclear power and put Scotland on a path to a clean energy future. Our report The Power of Scotland sets out how Scotland could tackle climate change without the need for nuclear power.
