16 August 2007 Since the launch of the home energy challenge at the end of June, theEnergy Saving Trust has been visiting each of the MSPs to look at howenergy efficient their homes are.
EachMSP home is being given a full survey, which will take an in-depth lookat the fabric of the building, space and water heating, cooking, lightsand appliances to give a comprehensive picture of energy usage in thehome. The survey will calculate how much carbon dioxide per squaremetre each MSP’s home is emitting. This is what we will be judgingthem on, although we’ll also be awarding bonus points for any actionthey take that we think is particularly ambitious!
Aspart of the survey they will also be given information on what actionthey can take to improve the energy efficiency of their home, the costof doing it and the savings they are likely to make in both carbondioxide and on the costs of their fuel bills. As well as this, EnergySaving Trust advisors will also be able to give advice on installingmicro-renewables, such as solar panels, to generate green electricityor heat.
The surveys that the MSPs are having done are exactly the same as those available to any member of the public. Want a survey like this for your home?
We’ll be giving the results of the surveys in early September, so visit again then to see how each MSP is doing.
