Big Ask. Big Push. Big Pledge.

Lastyear more than 150,000 of you asked your MP to support our calls for anew law to make annual cuts in carbon dioxide. This was a vital part ofour campaign work on climate change and without you it wouldn’t havesucceeded.

In response to the campaign, the UK Government announced last November that it would introduce a Climate Bill. This is a fantastic success for The Big Ask, so thank you if you were one of the 150,000.

The challenge now is to make sure that the Bill is a tough one.

Friends of the Earth says that the Climate Change Bill should:

• reduce emissions every year so the UK reaches a target of at least 80% cuts by 2050;
  
• include annual milestones and progress reports so politicians can't blame preceding Governments for missing targets; and
  
• include international aviation & shipping emissions

From now until the bill comes to the House of Commons is the crucial time to influence MPs and gain support for these asks. That’s why, in 2008, we’ll be asking you to talk to your MP.
