In the week that the highly successful London congestion charge is extended, Friends of the Earth Scotland welcomes the opportunity to debate the issue of road pricing.
The transport sector is one of the main contributors to climate change. All responsible politicians need to address this issue and propose workable solutions to the problems of transport and climate change. We firmly believe road pricing forms part of that solution.
We are surprised to read the position of the Scottish Conservatives who, in opposing nationwide road charging, appear to be contradicting their UK leader, David Cameron who is on record as supporting ‘...new solutions for road charging based on usage and the time of day’ .
