Scottish businessman wins award for promoting false solutions to climate change
Biotech giant Monsanto, which is headed by Glaswegian Hugh Grant, an adviser to Scottish Enterprise, has been awarded the Angry Mermaid Award 2009 for making the greatest effort to sabotage attempts to tackle climate change. Announced by award-winning writer and journalist Naomi Klein announced today at the UN climate talks in Copenhagen that Monsanto won with 37% of the total vote [1]. Oil giant Shell took second place (18%) in the Award for lobbying to sabotage effective action on climate change, followed by the American Petroleum Institute (14%)....

40% climate cuts by 2020 are "practical and affordable" for Europe

A colony of climate-refugee penguins set off from Scotland’s capital today on a brave mission to carry their message of ‘Save the Human’ across the country. The pocket-sized model penguins are launching a competition with Friends of the Earth Scotland to call on all politicians to pass a strong Scottish Climate Change Bill. Trump to receive 'Stupid' gong at climate awards ceremony
A part glitzy, part tongue-in-cheek awards ceremony will be held tonight at Edinburgh Filmhouse cinema in recognition of the contributions of various Scottish individuals and organisations to the fight against climate change. The awards will also name and shame some of the most notorious climate villains, including Donald Trump and some somewhat portly felines. There will be some eccentric touches including bad jokes, penguins and other unlikely characters, and some very unusual awards statues....

Penguins move Antarctic to Holyrood to save humans
Holyrood will today be visited by a group of penguins who have brought a chunk of their dwindling habitat with them in a bid to save the humans from climate chaos.The penguins, assisted by Friends of the Earth Scotland, will create an entire antarctic scene consisting of snow covered ground, giant icebergs and snow machines whipping up a real blizzard.The seven penguins will plead Scottish politicians to "Save the humans"....

Lord Turner, Chair of both the Government's Committee on Climate Change and the Financial Services Authority (FSA), will address a packed house at the University of Edinburgh's McEwan Hall on Monday evening (9 Feb 2009).
